Before
Before the fair, your main job is to find out which companies you want to visit and then do research to learn more about them. A list of employers can be found on the Handshake page for each event. Learn about them. Understand what they do, what they’re looking for in a candidate, and whether you would be a good fit. You can also attend the Information sessions held beforehand. Here is a handout that can give you more information on what and how to research.
You will want to also prepare your resume for the event. Make sure it is up to date and specifically tailored to your potential employers. Visit the Resume page to get more information on how to improve your resume. Make sure to bring 10-20 copies, depending on the amount of time you will have, that you can hand out.
Each semester BYU Career Services holds several fair prep events. Those are a great resource for your preparation.

During
Navigating the Career Fair is a difficult, yet important, way for you to succeed. As long as you have prepared for the fair, you should have everything you need.
When addressing an employer, use the "Elevator Pitch" approach. This is something that you can say to the recruiters to grab their attention. You will have a very short amount of time to make an impression. A good formula to follow is to share:
1. Present: What are you studying?Where are you currently working?
2. Past: Where have you worked the past? What made you interested in this field?
3.Future: What are your short-term or long-term career goals? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
For an even better idea of what these employers want to hear, watch this video of past suggestions from recruiters.
Make sure you are respectful as you talk with recruiters. Be legitimately interested in what they have to say, and be courteous in everything you do.
As with all opportunities to interact with employers, dress to impress! Wear professional clothing to the fair.

After
After the fair, do what you can to bring your interaction back to the employers minds. You can do a few different things:
1. Send the recruiters you met during the fair LinkedIn connection requests to increase your network and to stand out from the others.
2. Sending thank you emails and notes is also important. Send these to Alumni and Recruiters that you met. Doing so could lead to an interview. Here are some more tips on how to best express your gratitude.
3. In case you get an interview, make sure to brush up on your interview skills. Check out the Interview page for more help and to get some practice!
